Keloid Removal Surgery

Keloids are commonly confused with normal scars.  While a keloid is a scar, it is specifically one that is an overgrowth of collagen at the location of a healed wound. Keloids will grow past the site of injury or where the original scar is. They are firm, rubbery, and vary in color. While these scars are benign and not contagious, they do cause pain and can be extremely itchy.

Not only do people opt for keloid removal surgery due to the pain, but most remove them for cosmetic purposes as well. Keloids are large and noticeable, especially due to the discoloration. Keloid removal surgery will get your skin back to looking normal.

Renew Your Skin By Removing Keloid Scars

Keloids typically form with scar tissue where an injury has occurred or an incision has been made. Sometimes they can result from a scratch, piercing, or a pimple. This excessive growth of collagen can be triggered by chickenpox, severe acne, or extensive tension while a wound is closing. These scars grow fast and can cause disfiguration when found on on the ears or face.

Many people look to have Keloids surgically removed due to the pain and discomfort, but also because of their large unappealing look. Sometimes, keloids can return after surgery and come back larger. At Seto Plastic Surgery, we coming surgery with other treatments such as silicone scar sheets and cortisone injections to help reduce recurrence of keloids after surgery.

Is Keloid Surgery For You?

If you are a physically healthy person with noticeable keloid scarring or abnormal scars that thicken and continue to grow in size, keloid removal surgery is for you.

A keloid scar is a scar that has increased in size since the initial injury or surgery, and has grown beyond the original boundaries of the scar. When considering keloid surgery, it is important to remember that any additional incisions in your skin could potentially cause new keloid scars!

Therefore, it is important to minimize the size and extent of incisions. Depending on the size and location of your keloid scars, Seto Plastic Surgery will use a different type of surgical treatment.  Most keloid treatments can be performed under local anesthesia.
